Silence

Those moments when words fail you

Or when you refuse to speak  ;

When the emptiness is a million words stringed together.

The thoughts clouding your mind can’t be expressed with conversation ,

And in your eyes are wonderings and wanderings ;

Interpreted  and perhaps misinterpreted best

By the people who might care to devour  .

Sometimes a safe abode to live ,

Only when you know the journey that ushered you to that sanctuary

Makes it golden indeed.

  2. I read your poem three times. I really like how you write about silence as a problem (my favorite line: “When the emptiness is a million words strained together.” )
    And yet silence can also be “a safe abode to live.”
    “Only when you know the journey that ushered youthere”… leaves me thinking more and more.
    Your poem also had a sparseness that seems appropriate- it evoked silence somehow.
    Thank you!

  3. “The thoughts clouding your mind can’t be expressed with conversation”

    There’s some real space in between the lines here, and it helps give the poem time to breathe. I found myself wanting to read it again. 🙂
